What IS CBD?
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a chemical compound found in the cannabis plant. It’s believed to interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is a complex network of receptors and signaling molecules involved in regulating various physiological processes like pain, mood, appetite, and sleep.
CBD is believed to inhibit the breakdown of the body’s natural endocannabinoids, allowing them to exert their effects for longer, modulate the activity of receptors in the ECS, including CB1 and CB2 receptors, and interact with other neurotransmitter systems like serotonin.
Unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive compound in cannabis that causes a “high,” CBD is non-psychoactive because it does not directly bind to CB1 receptors in the brain. This means it won’t alter your state of mind.
