Chronic fatigue is an overwhelming, persistent exhaustion that makes it hard to do even everyday activities. Imagine you have a car with a dead battery – no matter how much gas you put in (sleep, rest), the engine (your body) just won’t turn over and run properly. That’s kind of how chronic fatigue feels.
Here’s what makes chronic fatigue different from regular tiredness:
Severity: Chronic fatigue is much more severe and long-lasting than just feeling tired. It can make it difficult to concentrate, participate in hobbies, or even get out of bed in the morning.
Doesn’t improve with rest: Even after a good night’s sleep, you might still feel wiped out. It’s like the car battery is so dead, even a jump start (nap) isn’t enough.
Lasts for months: Chronic fatigue is traditionally diagnosed when this tiredness lasts for at least six (6) months.
Chronic fatigue can be frustrating, but doesn’t have to be for life. With the right approach, you can find ways to address and live a full and active life.
